Metal additive manufacturing poses significant challenges, spanning from process qualification to component certification. As a burgeoning field in material processing with numerous novel parameters, it demands fresh insights into characterization for both process and component standards. Additionally, there is a need for experimental benchmark input to enhance modeling.
The European large installations ILL and ESRF provide a shared platform for industrial investigations into additive manufacturing. These installations enable unique static (scanning) and dynamic (in-situ) studies on stresses and imaging across a range from nanometers to several centimeters.
